This is the only villa situated in the renowned ‘het Spiegel’ neighbourhood in Bussum. Bussum is well-known for its excellent living qualities, green surroundings and close proximity to Amsterdam.

The acclaimed Bussum architect, Herman Everts, designed this unique villa in 1932 on the avenue named after his father, J.F. Everts, master builder of the municipality.

Everts designed this villa, with an underground parking garage, on a beautiful plot measuring 980 m2 situated on a particularly quiet cul-de-sac. The house is located on the ‘Maria hill’ which is reminiscent of [the ice age and the formation of] the Gooi area. It forms a natural end of the sand plateau characteristic of the Gooi. The strict lines of the roof contrast with the round parapet of the terrace, which stature is accentuated by the use of white and black. On opening the beautiful garden gate, the visitor is struck by the high location occupied by the impressive white house. That must surely have been the intention of the architect Everts, who would have certainly been inspired by his contemporaries, such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Willem Dudok. As with the buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright, the visitor is first "made small" by having to ascend a long sloping footpath. At the top, the entrance door is comparatively wide which gives the impression of a low entrance. Everts also wanted the visitor to experience the same effect on entering the living area. Once inside, the ceilings are high and the windows large which creates an instant connection to the stunning garden.

The current residents are the third occupants and have skilfully modernized the villa while retaining all its unique details. The renovations have been implemented sympathetically under the guidance of the well-known restoration architects (Archivolt from Amsterdam). Their modifications have the special character, certainly emphasised the unique character of the villa. Examples are the new sinks that repeat the wave pattern in the original doors and the specially designed ebony knobs on the kitchen cabinets. The house contains many more surprises. Arches are interspersed with straight shapes. Stained glass in the north-south direction is light in nature, while the tasteful glass and lead compositions in the east-west direction contain many more colours. The colours occurring in the glass and lead come back in the beautiful tile plateaus. This is a villa that is incomparable with other houses in ‘het Spiegel’. Due to the extraordinary elevated and favourable location of the plot, this is not only a place with lots of privacy, but above all a very light and sunny house.

The wide front door opens up onto the hallway which contains a special staircase, beautiful glazed tiles on the walls and floors, modern toilet, spacious living room with fireplace, separate dining room with an original servant shovel. This floor benefits from high ceilings with have their original beams, parquet floors and many stained-glass windows. The cosy kitchen is located at the rear of the property and also gives access to a secluded backyard. A hefty provision-wine cellar is centrally located and easy accessible.
