The Barentszstraat is located in a pleasant part of Amsterdam (Westerpark district): the pre-war “Zeeheldenbuurt/Sea heroes district”! This "Zeeheldeneiland/Sea heroes island" lies between the Western Islands, the southern IJ bank and the popular Spaarndammerbuurt. The Western Islands consist of Bickerseiland, Prinseneiland and Realeneiland in the centre of Amsterdam. They are located south of river ‘t IJ, north of the railway line between Central Station and Amsterdam-Sloterdijk and west of the Westerdok.
It is like a small world in itself. The historical environment is very suitable for walks and nowadays often the setting for filming. It is not without reason that the Zeeheldenbuurt is one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Amsterdam!
